Humanity Club

Just a few of our handpicked Humanity Club student leaders, striking a confident pose

If we are to reach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.
— Mohandas Gandhi

Original arts-based activities and materials teach the values of self-worth, equality and respect-for-all to handpicked student leaders, typically young girls of color. These student leaders then help us create activities and materials that inspire their school peers to practice those same values. Emphasizes self-worth and leadership skills that include public speaking to foster a welcoming and uplifting school environment.

 how this serves our mission:

The Humanity Project believes that focused leadership training, exposure to new ideas and consistent encouragement given to young students all provide a solid foundation for more of them to assume socially significant roles in later life. This promotes gender and racial equality as well as a more diverse community. In the short term, these young leaders greatly influence attitudes and behavior throughout their school, church or other social group. And of central importance, each student leader gains much stronger feelings of self-worth in daily life.

At the Humanity Project, we encourage parents to build their child’s feelings of self-worth through intentional training, just as we do in our Humanity Club program. Read about this approach to parenting in our post, “Bullyproof Your Child.”
