This is the Humanity Project’s newest program. One Common Humanity creates a Humanity Project Speakers Bureau in collaboration with other nonprofits and organizations in the community. The Humanity Project arranges and moderates discussions by LGBTQ people as well as African-Americans and women, visiting local churches and other groups that want to better understand these often marginalized members of our society. As part of One Common Humanity, we’re also hosting a series of community symposiums for families of transgender children.
How This serves our mission:
The Humanity Project believes that inequality and disrespect result from ignorance and fear. Those who belittle or harm LGBTQ persons, people of color or women always act without any genuine understanding of the individuals who make up these groups. Equality and respect can emerge more readily by breaking through the ignorance and the fear — and we think one of the best ways to do that is through face-to-face conversation. Once you talk with someone, you better understand them and their personal journey. That’s the beginning of greater respect, broader equality.
